About the Fund

Susann LaFave was a Bradford High School English teacher for over 35 years devoted to serving her students. Her interests included the arts (including which included acting in local productions) and traveling the world.

Following her passing in January 2009, her estate established the LaFave Family Fund with the Kenosha Community Foundation.

In establishing her trust, Ms. LaFave explained:

"In my capacity as a high school English teacher in the Kenosha public schools, I devoted my life to education, particularly to promoting humanities, the arts, tolerance and communication…income (from the Funds) shall be used to further these purposes, in perpetuity, including, in particular, teaching and benefiting those who would promote a sense of tolerance and who would seek to end man's inhumanity to man."

In addition to establishing an annual scholarship at her alma mater - Marquette University, income from the LaFave Family Funds provides grants to organizations that promote the interests and values that Ms. LaFave held.

Focus of the LaFave Family Fund

Grant funding from the LaFave Family Fund supports organizations that further education - particularly to promoting the humanities, the arts, tolerance and communication.

In 2011, the LaFave Family Fund supported the following not-for-profit organizations:

Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast to the Words Can Hurt to deliver "SOMETHING" massage to girls in Kenosha County.
Peace Learning Circles of Kenosha & Racine to the program that teaches non-violent, conflict resolution & pro-social relationship skills.
St. Joseph Catholic Academy of Kenosha to help send seven teachers to attend a conference on expanding the use of laptop/tablet technologies in the classroom at the Lausanne Laptop Institute in Tennessee.
Fifth House Ensemble for "One Shot!" – a series of arts-integrated programs at Kenosha Unified K-5 in collaboration with Carthage College students.
