PRESS RELEASE

October 19, 2009 - Ken Fellman, Board President of the Kenosha Community Foundation announced that the foundation had received a gift of $600,000 from the estate of Susann J. LaFave.

Ms. LaFave, who taught English at Bradford High School for 36 years passed away in January of this year.

The endowment will be known as “The LaFave Family Fund” and was established in memory of Ms. LaFave and her parents Raymond and Helen LaFave.  The Kenosha Community Foundation will hold and administer the fund as a permanent endowment using the income in accordance with instructions left by Ms. LaFave in her Revocable Trust.

Ms. LaFave, a graduate of Marquette University provided for a scholarship at the Marquette College of Communication to be known as the LaFave Family Scholarship. 

As a high school English teacher, Ms. LaFave devoted her life to education. 

Bob Schneider, Executive Director of the Foundation stated that “Ms. LaFave had a real interest in promoting the humanities and the arts and believed strongly that communication was an effective way of promoting tolerance.”  After the funding of the annual scholarship at Marquette, the remaining income from this endowment will provide grants to organizations that promote those interests and values Ms. LaFave held so dearly during her lifetime.

The Kenosha Community Foundation, organized in 1926 as a tax-exempt public charity, actively manages permanent endowments established by individuals, families and business organizations.  As a public charity gifts to the foundation provide the maximum tax advantage to the donor and provide a cost effective method to carry out long term charitable goals.
